Despite these minor flaws I still enjoyed the book tremendously for the insight, wisdom, and entertaining nature of it all. I just could not put it down. So, when I heard about this book, which tells the back story of Socrates, the mentor in that book, I thought I’d check it out.

However, I found this book to be the most readable of all. In illuminating the nature of this shift in consciousness, Ran describes in detail how our current ego-based state of consciousness operates.


This was a fantastic read. In a way, I wish Socrates had remained an enigma because the unveiling of how he came to be who he was when Dan Millman met him was anti-climatic.

On a ean occasions I found my jaw just dropping, putting down the book for a second to try and absorb what just happened, then quickly and eagerl If I could give this countless stars Millmqn would. Socrates is reluctantly drawn into a final decisive battle with this nemesis, but there is a twist at the end to further complicate that event.

At every turn, Socrates is faced with events that should fill him with bitterness and hatred, but he must keep going and learn to control his emotions to become the warrior that he wants to be. Read most of it a series of hourneys waiting for a bus, then on a bus, and often while walking away from the bus.

Being very interested in the individual that is Socrates, the title “the Socrwtes of Socrates” spoke to me in particular. I decided it was time to read.

I loved experiencing the whole process of how Socrates came to realizations, and I felt like I was enlightened in the process as well. There is the recurring reminder of his Jewish blood, his grandfather trying to infuse some of that spirit during their short time together, and Sergei ultimately finds family among the Jews.


The characters are quite deep, featuring qualities and characteristics which tend to stick with the reader, almost as if the adventure was his or her own.

He marries into a family, but that brings its own tragedy. Siddhartha joins the ascetics, visits Gotama, embraces his earthly desires, and finally communes with nature, all in an attempt to attain Nirvana. While religion has a role in defining the characters, the book does not push religious ideology. If asked to rate this book at the half way mark I would have given it 3 stars.

All I’ll say is: Through his journey I felt as if I were there, beside him, and as “we” continued toward our goal of revenge, my heart lightened and my soul filled with love and forgiveness.
