I listened to the audiobook, read by Manford. With his laugh-out-loud tales of coming of age, Jason shows he’s a generous storyteller and as natural an observer as he is on stage. The only thing Dad did hand over to nine-year-old Jason was a cassette tape of comedy greats, from Dave Allen to Lenny Bruce. Gary rated it really liked it Jan 04, Jason Manford is one of my favourite comedians and so maybe that already made me a little biased as to how good this book would be.
Seven people were crammed into a Vauxhall Cavalier, with Jason curled up in the passenger footwell, seeing the motorway rush past at 70mph, inches from poper face, thought the rust-worn holes in the bodywork.
This book is brilliantly funny.

The opening chapters of this autobiography felt porper little simplistic and a little heavy on the ‘our family was so poor, we had to Aug 04, Julia rated it it was amazing.

But then several instances are much less commonplace, no matter how matter-of-factly Manford relates them — such as the heroin addict uncle who used to crash on the family sofa. His career began one night in a pub in Chorlton when a comedian didn’t arrive for his set and Jason, the year-old glass collector stepped in to fill the gap.

Really enjoyable, Brought back lots of memories for me, as we are a similar age and from a similar background, some great laugh out loud moments and some heartbreakingly sad ones too, but that’s what life is for most of us really, isn’t it?!
