Isaac Dragos (Beyond the Marius Brothers #1) by Joyee Flynn
All Isaac ever wanted was to keep his family together. On his mother’s death bed he made that vow and all it has ever given him is grief. His father is a mean and spiteful man, but no one knew how bad he was until they realized that their youngest brother had been locked in the servant’s quarters and not gone away to school like they had been told. Isaac’s brothers automatically assumed that he agreed with every vindictive thing his father said, never giving him the benefit of the doubt.
Isaac had to do many questionable things to keep his father from hurting his brothers until he had no choice, but to kill or be killed, leaving him without any reason to live. When no one else was willing, Isaac’s best friend Zane was there to keep him alive and sane.
Isaac needed space to deal with everything that happened so he went away, but he didn’t expect to find his mate and the possibility of a happy future. I was riveted into Isaac’s story from the very beginning. It was heartbreaking how his every move to protect his family ended in his brothers misunderstanding his motives and hating him.
It was easy to understand why they hated their father, but to never give him the benefit of the doubt was sad. When Isaac’s oldest brother Dillon’s own mates objected to how he treated Isaac it was an eye opener for them. It was beautiful how at Isaac’s lowest moment he met his mate Rory, who instantly believed in him in a way that no one else ever had.
Their immediate attraction was tempered with the need to be completely truthful with each other, something that most people would never do. I enjoyed exploring Italy through their eyes, seeing places that I have only read about.
The love between Isaac and Rory was beautiful to behold. This is one book that will remain on my favorites list. He is a character readers have loved to hate flgnn now we finally get to read his side of the story — how enlightening! Isaac is a man of many faces. He hides who he is and what he wants trying to keep a family together that is jyee to fall apart no matter what he does. This story will have you in tears because this is a man who has been misjudged his whole life.
That is until he meets his mate Rory.
Rory, like Isaac, is running away from a life he would rather forget about. These two men have so much more in common than just being fated mates. They both have experienced loss and refusal by others to accept them: Rory for being gay and Isaac for being the supposed evil protege of Abraham Dragos.
Assumptions can tear relationships apart and create wounds that will never heal. Isaac is a man who knows he has done terrible things in his past but for good reasons.
When Isaac and Rory return from Italy they are blindsided by his brothers and the Marius family. I was completely taken aback by his brother Dillion’s behavior.
When all these people get together its make or break time. Will they resolve their issues and listen to one another or will they throw away any love they may have had for each other as a family? This was truly a great book. You feel all kinds of emotions while reading it: Flynn really put together a beautiful story with Isaac Dragos. To see the villain in a different light was an excellent idea.
This is a feel good story that comes full circle for the characters and is a must read. I watched in horror as Father slapped Noah across the face.
I should have killed you in your crib. Large hands grabbed my arms as I tried to launch forward at Father.
I pulled, he tugged, and I spun ieaac to hit him until I saw it was Dillon. Then I got pissed. How could Dillon be okay with Father treating Noah this way? I was clearly missing something if they were on the same side against me. Did they think I was going after Noah? I wanted to keep him away from Noah. Is that what my brother really thought of me? I might not have been a fan of Noah being a fag, but he was still my brother, and Father had no right to hit him like that.
It seemed Noah had it the worst of us. Marius yelled back, stepping closer to Father. Marius easily ducked it and landed a punch of his f,ynn on Abraham, knocking Father on his ass.
At this point I just wanted to get him out of there before he did more damage to our family. I wracked my brain for what to say that would make him leave. What are you talking about, Dillon? Then it hit me—Dillon thinks I agree with Father. I wanted to say something, anything to explain that I was just trying to defuse the situation. But like always, no one was paying attention to me, so instead I just pulled Father towards the door. You told us that he was studying abroad.
I stand with the Marius family on this one. You lay one hand on Noah, so help me god, I will kill you f,ynn. I swear on my honor, Father. What has Dillon done? I thought to myself as I closed my eyes, suddenly feeling very old and tired.
I was so tired of this shit. And what the fuck had Father been doing with Noah all these years? My head just hurt from it all.
I wanted to get us out of there and think. Abraham knew he would lose. Isaac, take him home, get this piece of shit out of my sight. We had a big enough mess to clean up without Dillon throwing more shit my way to handle.
I stared at him for a moment with my mouth open before dragging Father with me. Playing back my words in my head, I wanted to kick myself. Rory growled, his lip pulling up over his fkynn as his canines extended. I raised an eyebrow at him. I pulled him into my arms as we laughed, and I rolled us over until he was back in our original position. I only care that I will be the last person you ever have sex with. I saw the longing and desperation in his eyes to belong to someone, the same as I felt.
He smiled widely up at me and nodded furiously. My heart swelled at the flyn I saw in his emotions. I will take no others from this moment and commit my immortal life to you alone, Rory. I groaned as I watched my hot little mate fold himself in half with his knees next to his ears. Checking his face for any signs of changing his mind, I pushed forward when I saw none.
I went slowly even though everything in me was screaming to slam home because it felt so good. His knees were by his ears, and he could still move his arms! This was worlds different from sex with a woman, and I loved it. I was just glad that it was Rory. He meant with his heart. I leaned up enough so I could stare into his bright blue eyes, getting lost in their depths. Are you ready to come drwgos me?
I growled my approval, my fangs extending even further at the sight. Leaning over, I licked his neck a few times, getting a full-body shiver from Rory. I struck fast, excited to claim him. As I drank him down, my body lit up like drxgos flame.
