Finite and Affine Reflection Groups: Chapter 3 discusses the polynomial invariants of finite reflection groups, and the first part ends with a description of the affine Weyl groups and the way they arise in Lie theory.

Page – An approach to the connectedness of the left cells in affine Weyl groups, Bull. The first part is devoted to establishing concrete examples; the author begins by developing the most important facts about finite reflection groups and related geometry, and showing that such groups have a Coxeter representation.

Cambridge Studies in Advanced Mathematics: Hecke algebras and KazhdanLusztig polynomials. General Theory of Coxeter Groups: Finite reflection groups acting on Euclidean spaces are discussed, and the first part ends with the construction of the affine Weyl groups, a class of Coxeter groups that plays a major role in Lie theory. Jasmine rated it it was amazing Apr 30, I think that if I run into Kazhdan-Lusztig polynomials in real life and need a reference for the basic facts, this will serve, but it didn’t work as bedside reading.

He assumes that the reader has a good knowledge of algebra, but otherwise the book is self contained. Ngoc Anh rated it it was amazing Oct 14, In common with all of Humphrey’s books, it is written in a clear and helpful expository style, and so gives an excellent introduction to the subject. The whole theory is just heavenly. The style is informal and the arguments are clear. Chapter 8, which is like an “introduction to the broader literature” chapter, with a bunch of miscellaneous cool topics and no proofs, was nice, but I think I would have been more excited reading a chapter like this grroups was written much more recently.
