So, is it worth reading, then?

I was disappointed, I regret to say, after having such high expectations for this due to how mind-bogglingly brilliant the first book was. It’s also partly just the wacky humour that made me love the characters and the story so much that I also cried for it. Traveling to Bookholm, that is legendarily known as The City of Dreaming Books, little does Optimus know that he is entering a land full of danger with friends and foes.

Did I fail to mention that books are revered in Zamonia? I can only imagine what kind of imagination he has.

Read this first, first one last? It is truly a world you want to visit over and over.

Aug 16, Dweezz rated it it was ok. This second book ends in a cliffhangerfeaturing Yarnspinner alone in the still-enormous catacombswith implication that the ‘Shadow King’ is alive. The City of Dreaming Books

THEN it slowly clicked. It feels like a gig from a band that’s not too keen on playing – they do a well enough job because they’re good at what they do, but they lack spirit.

Another great facet is that all the Zamonia stories intertwine on some level.

Anyway, the thing is that I had a hard time getting into the book, which could be due to my simply not being in the mood.

The City of Dreaming Books (Zamonia, #4) by Walter Moers

Walter Moers lives in Hamburg. The characters in the story are lovely; the protagonist is simply adorable, and easy for any book nerd to relate to, and I also love the various friends and helpers he meets during his quest, and the villains are sradt as well.

Bookholm truly has come alive in the mind of this reader.

I can see him growing up with these wild worlds constantly touching upon his reality.

I’ve always wondered why your name was changed in translation, but no matter. I don’t like the protagonist any more. There dangerous Bookhunters hunt unscrupulously for valuable books, a book-filled labyrinth under the city is also filled with unspeakable monsters, and one-eyed little Booklings deep in the labyrinth are all devoted to a single author, memorizing his or her entire work.

Other books in the series. Paperbackpages. The ultimate book for any booklovers with a sense of humour and a love for good, exciting stories. Thanks for telling us about the problem. This is one of the most charming and delightful books I’ve ever read.

Although you have to admire the kind of writer who can spend more than 50 pages on a recap of the prequel.

I like the twist with Smyke and the Biblionauts, I have to say. Everything in the story revolves around books, reading and writing, and the story is written in accordance with all the rules of good storytelling so that in pages the story never slows down too much but becomes more and more exciting, and at the same time the story is voluminous enough to have time for revealing much of the fantastic world of the book. Around the Year i Had it been almost anybody else I would probably diie been too annoyed with him for pulling such a stunt.
