That was what made me stick with it and read it to the very end because Lesley Arfin has some big cajones for airing her personal laundry for all to see and read.

Don’t have a Kindle? I can’t say I hated Dear Diary but I’m not a total convert like all the other reviewers here. Kindle Edition Verified Purchase. I’m fine with the appreciations and slang, but her writing just isn’t dizry good. I’d not heard of Lesley Arfin, but apparently she writes for Rookie and I adore Rookie and the aforementioned bookstore was also selling copies of Rookie Yearbook One. Literally not a single funny thing happens.

While a book could still work under these conditions, this one doesn’t. Start reading Dear Diary on your Kindle in under a minute. I picked this one up at McKays because the cover reminded me a lot of Mortified edited by David Nagelwhich I enjoyed. One person found this helpful. The setup is actually pretty clever: I thought this book was great. This woman arin come a long way and is someone who is remarkably talented. Then you can start reading Kindle books on your smartphone, tablet, or computer – no Kindle device required.


Lesley Arfin’s journal entries and especially her observations from an older age really rang true to me, capturing the insecurities and desperation to please that I think all young girls go through.

I think this book may have been able to be something great, well expect that Arfin lacks any seriously writing ability. This mostly consist of her reminiscing about all the funny things that happened when diay was high and not-at-all-subtly steering the conversation back to herself whenever the other person tries talking about their own lives.

I was so intrigued by this book – it has the dramatic trifecta: Try the Kindle edition and experience these great reading features: Diaey book had me laughing, pausing and taking notes of my own memories. Literally no one spoke to me for a few weeks.

I never had a raver phase. Shame on Leslie Arfin!!!!!!! I may not of come from Long Island, but I did come from upstate New York and saw way too many of my friends especially those who were really fantastically artsy die from heroin overdoses.

Sounds like a luxury problem. I feel like there were times too that I could have been the mean girl and not known how badly I was hurting someone.

How did that get past the editor? I wonder if she feels the same way about her Diary?

She just wants them to know what they might be getting into. There are also “interviews” where she reconnects with people from her past. I expected something great artin of this book but it fell short, really really short.
