Of all Bach’s harpsichord concertos, this is probably the only one that originated as a harpsichord work, though not in an orchestral guise. In each of the concertos, the harpsichord solo part is less an arrangement of the original solo line than it is a newly composed part that simply takes the original as a starting point, but in BWVand especially in the outer movements which retain the original tempo indications: Throughout the first movement the harpsichord part also has several episodes with “perfidia”—the same half bar semiquaver patterns repeated over a prolonged period.
