Yes, Weber has definitely brought something of the flavor of the earlier novels, set in the life of an ocean-going navy in the Napoleonic Wars, to this tale of a space-faring navy in the far future. I am very torn regarding how I should rate this book. She hardly even flinches when she has to make the choice between her duty and the lives of her crew.

BR – On Basilisk Station: Honor plays several roles throughout the story, including pilot, teacher, ambassador, and basiliso, and every one of them brings statioj a different side to her. We’re given a new female captain who doesn’t always test well but has incredible instincts, characters who have honest failings and self-awareness, and political machinations from all sides. I should probably give this more than 1 star because I did have fun with it. There is very little of that in the first half weger the book. Weber explains this by that vague anti-aging drugs or process that works it’s way into every other SF novel.
