Standards Dealing with Design Requirements: The machine and associated test methods have gained wide acceptance in the global footwear industry, with sales made to brands, manufacturers, test laboratories and institutes around the world.

The output from the test is a determination of the coefficient of friction between the shoe and the test surface. However, this standard was never promulgated as a final rule. The wet aztm includes soap-contaminated specifications. The coefficient of friction is defined as the ratio of the horizontal force to the vertical force as the shoe slips.
Rise height and tread width shall be uniform throughout any flight of stairs including any foundation structure used as one or more treads of the stairs. The English XL F was the first tribometer to be validated under this standard. This device has not be put through a F approval to date. OSHA requires the use of slip-resistant surfaces in several locations in their standards.
Using the new ASTM slip standard
This standard addresses the recommended format and content of reports addressing slip resistance evaluations. Once initiated, the program brings the footwear into contact with f4889 test surface and applies a pre-set vertical load before translating the floor horizontally at a controlled speed.
To simulate cold weather conditions, an optional piece of SATRA equipment allows a temperature-controlled block of ice to be produced and used in the STM slip test machine. The footwear is mounted on a foot forme which, in turn is mounted onto the loading frame. ASTM F To be meaningful, walkway tribometer results must correlate the slip characteristics of a surface or contaminant, or both, to the actual propensity for human slips.
In Europe, the US and in many other countries around the world, there are a growing number of legal obligations requiring retailers to only place safe products on the market. Slip resistance testing is a complex process, and an effective slip test machine needs to control and measure a number of key criteria reproducing the critical factors relating to slip when walking.

Such documentation or certification shall be based on the appropriate ASTM standard test method conducted by a laboratory capable of performing the test. It can also validate these products against a footwear specification in which a required coefficient of friction has been specified. The method utilizes the atsm shoe, so it seems to offer a more complete picture than those methods which require sections of the footwear to be tested.

ASTM F – 96e1 Standard Test Method for Using a James Machine (Withdrawn )
This method uses the stationary James Machine. A section of calibrated standard flooring, an f4899 floor surface, or a special surface such as ice is placed onto the floor carriage.
The proliferation of standards creates confusion by both consumers of slip-resistance testing services and even those offering such services. Some product manufacturers incorrectly point to this proposed standard as a rule to which employers must comply. The method uses a Mark I, which are not readily produced.
